Yurena Díaz y Astou Ndour llevan a España U20 a la siguiente fase (2011 YURENA Y ASTOU BRONCE CON LA U18)

En el campeonato de Europa U20 que empezó ayer en Sansum (Turquía), Yurena Díaz y Astou Ndour están siendo jugadoras muy importantes en las dos primeras victorias de España que las clasifica matemáticamente para la siguiente fase.

En la jornada de ayer España venció a Polonia por un contundente 60 a 29, siendo la MVP del partido Astou Ndour que en apenas 22 minutos consiguió 23 puntos y 9 rebotes, mientras Yurena Díaz fue la segunda máxima encestadora española con 9 puntos gracias a sus tres triples conseguidos.

Hoy España ha vencido a una dura Eslovaquia por 62 a 52 destacando nuevamente Astou Ndour con 17 puntos y 10 rebotes (primer doble-doble en el presente campeonato) y Yurena Díaz finalizó con 14 puntos y 5 rebotes, consiguiendo de nuevo 3 triples (los únicos logrados por las españolas) que la convierten en la mejor triplista de España y una de las mejores del presente campeonato de Europa.

Mañana jugarán la tercera jornada sin trascendencia clasificatoria para España (ya clasificada) contra Grecia.

Astou Ndour led the way for Spain in a dominant first outing, scoring 23 points in less than 23 minutes playing time

Two-time defending champions Spaindefeated Poland 60-29 in the opening game of Group B at the U20 European Championship Women in Samsun on Thursday.

Sparked with Yurena Diaz hitting her shots from downtown, Spain finished the first and started the second quarter with a 9-0 run. During the spurt, Poland was held scoreless for more than 11 minutes, as the reigning champions built a 33-13 lead and kept it comfortably for the remainder of the game.

It was a turnover-plagued encounter, as the teams combined for 47 turnovers, and no team scored points for an almost seven minute period bridging the third and the fourth quarter. Back-to-back triples from Itziar Llobet andAndrea Vilaró snapped the drought, making it 48-24.

Spanish center Astou Ndour dominated the paint, being the only player in double figures with 23 points in addition to nine rebounds in less than 23 minutes. Diaz finished with nine points while Dominika Owczarzak had eight in defeat.

Astou Ndour put in another MVP performance for Spain

Two-time defending champions Spain qualified for the Second Roundof the U20 European Championship Women, rallying back from an early 10-point deficit to down Slovak Republic 62-52.

The Slovaks used their dominance in the paint to open the second quarter with a 13-0 run and take 27-17 lead. But Spain countered right away with a 12-2 spurt to tie the game going into halftime, and then took the lead for good at the start of the third quarter. The advantage soon reached double figures (42-32), and the reigning champions never looked back.

In a well-played game from both sides, the Slovaks grabbed 18 offensive rebounds compared to Spain's 10, but it was Spain that won the battle in second chance points 14-9.

Astou Ndour led Spain for the second game in a row with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Elena De Alfredo had 15, and Yurena Diaz 14.Barbora Bálintová led the Slovak Republic with 16 points.
